The Energy Pulse Score is the main KPI of the Employee Energy Pulse: a measurement where you ask employees to what extent they gain energy from their work, based on a five-point scale.

Energy Pulse question

On the basis of their given scores, respondents are divided into three groups.

  • High energy employees: The percentage of respondents that answered 4 or 5
  • Neutral energy employees: The percentage of respondents that answered 3
  • Low energy employees: The percentage of respondents that answered 1 or 2

Calculation

For the Energy Pulse Score calculation, you take the percentage for High energy employees and you deduct the percentage of Low energy employees from it. The result is displayed as an absolute score, not a percentage, varying between -100 and +100. A high score shows that employees get a lot of energy from their work.

An example

You have conducted the Employee Energy Pulse within your company and you have 1000 responses. They can be divided in the following groups:

  • 730 out of 1000 (73%) of the responses are a 4 or 5
  • 170 out of 1000 (17%) of the responses are a 3
  • 100 out of 1000 (10%) of the responses are a 1 or 2

You now take the percentage of High energy employees (73) and you deduct the percentage of Low energy employees (10). This leads to an Energy Pulse Score of 63.
