On popular request, CYS has redesigned the period settings of your dashboard.
Depending on what type of periods your administrator allows you to have access to, there are now two types of period settings available for you to choose from: Smart periods and Manual periods.
By default your existing dashboards present you with the Smart periods setting. Your dashboard admin can change this to manual periods, or they can provide both options to the dashboard user, in which case the Period Setting switch will appear in the top bar and the user can switch between the options.
Smart periods
The Smart Periods allow you to set the:
1) Grouped by – select if you wish to report your results grouped per day, month, year, etc. Your dashboard admin determines which options are available in this dropdown.
2) Last period – select what you want to use as the most recent period to reported on. Any comparisons in your dashboard will report up until this period.
3) # of periods for comparison – select how many period comparisons you would like to see in your charts and tables.
Manual periods
The new option for Manual periods allows you to select a specific date range to report on. When using the manual option, the period grouping is removed and only the selected period is taken into consideration.
This means that if you have a bar chart that normally compares multiple periods, this will now show a single period: the selected date range.
And an iconized widget that would normally show the result of the current month or year (depending on your smart period selection), will now show the calculated result over the specifically selected date range.
The only exceptions are the specific Year to Date and Month to Date reporting widgets, since these are specifically designed to report on these ranges. For these widgets, they will only take into consideration data that is present within the selected date range, but within that date range it will report the result of the current Year to Date or Month to date.
Some examples:
When you select a date range from June 1st 2020 to November 15th 2020:
All regular widgets will report on this selected date range. Year to Date will also reported on this selected date range. This is due to the fact that the selection is within a single year.
Month to Date will be reported from November 1st 2020 to November 15th 2020.
When you select a date range from December 1st 2020 to February 25th 2021:
All regular widgets will report on this selected date range.
Year to Date will report from January 1st 2021 to February 25th 2021. This is due to the fact that this widget looks at the Year to Date of the most recent year.
Month to Date will report from February 1st 2021 to February 25th 2021. This is due to the fact that this widget looks at Month to Date of the most recent month.
Switching between period settings
For those who want to stay flexible, you can choose to have both period setting options available in your dashboard. Your administrator can set this up for you.
Please note that when your administrator provides both period options in your dashboard, you are only able to switch between them. It is not possible to apply them at the same time, since these period settings can conflict with each other, making the results difficult to interpret.
